Waves Group Ltd has announced its involvement in the successful decommissioning of the Ninian North Platform. Located in Block 3/3 of the East Shetland Basin about 130 nautical miles northeast of the Shetland Islands, the platform was installed in 1978 in a water depth of 141m supported by an 8-legged steel jacket.

Waves Group Ltd were appointed Marine Warranty Surveyors (MWS) back in 2017 for several phases of the project. These involved topsides bearing block installation, separation of topsides from the jacket, topsides removal, offshore welding of jacket lift points, and ending with the final jacket member cutting and removal lift in April using Allseas Pioneering Spirit’s revolutionary Jacket lift system (JLS).

The removal campaign marked the first time that the recently commissioned jacket lift system (JLS) beams had been used to remove a jacket.

The successful lift followed a jacket member cutting campaign was assisted by the construction of a support vessel Oceanic for which Waves Group Ltd also had a surveyor onboard to monitor the work.

"We are pleased to have been involved in this project and seeing it come to a successful conclusion" as stated by the company official on thier social media handle.
